Doreen passed away peacefully on Easter morning after a period of illness. She was born in Wroxton, Saskatchewan on 21 August, 1926, the daughter of Margaret and Bannatyne Macdonald and is survived by sons Charles, James, Glenn (and wife Alex Merrill, grandchildren Matthew and Morag), and Keith. She is also survived by her brothers Maxwell and his wife Kay of Regina, Robert and his wife Margaret of Burlington, Ontario and sister-in-law Helen Macdonald of Toronto, and in-laws Charlie Morison of Chicago, Dave and Marion Morison of Minneapolis and Jean and Fred Jones of Victoria, BC as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Doreen was predeceased by her parents Bannatyne and Margaret Macdonald , her husband Dr. James B. Morison, and her brother Glenn.

Doreen was raised in numerous small towns in Saskatchewan. In 1949 she completed her Nurses training at Providence Hospital in Moose Jaw and received her RN.

Doreen and Jim met and were married in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan in July 1951 and immediately moved overseas where Jim served with the Canadian government in London, Glasgow, and the Hague where their first son was born. The family returned to Canada in 1953 to reside in Winnipeg.

For many years she devoted her interests to raising her four sons and in 1979 she returned to her profession of nursing at the palliative care unit of the Princess Elizabeth hospital. She retired in 1986.

Doreen was very interested in her Scottish heritage and she was involved in Scottish cultural activities in Winnipeg for many years. Doreen loved to entertain dinner guests and times spent with family and friends were also very special to her. It is her wish that they always remember the good times she spent with them.

Doreen loved traveling with Jim and with her children. Her travels included all across Canada, many foreign countries including Russia, China and a four-week stay in Latvia in 1992 doing volunteer work. She particularly treasured her many and frequent journeys to Scotland with family and friends.

Please join us for a Memorial Service that will be held at 2PM on Saturday, April 26 at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Boulevard. Rev. Dr. Michael Wilson presiding. By Doreen’s request there will be cremation and a family interment service.
